People Problem
Technology is becoming an obsession for humans. Their consumption of media reduces real-life interactions resulting in fewer contact exchanges.
47% of the United States Are Addicted to Their Cell Phones
In recent year, statistics from 2022 Cell Phone Usage has shown how occupied they have been with their phones:
“Our cell phones are our constant companions. As many as 71% of us check our phones within 10 minutes of waking up. And 74% of us can’t leave our cell phones at home without feeling uneasy. Nor can we imagine our little companions dying—48% of people say they feel a sense of panic or anxiety when their cell phone battery goes below 20%.”
82% of conversations are affected
A recent article from Greater Good Magazine explains why technology has become harmful to humans:
“Eighty-nine percent of Americans say that during their last social interaction, they took out a phone, and 82 percent said that it deteriorated the conversation they were in. Basically, we’re doing something that we know is hurting our interactions.”
Quick Response
In addition to making socializing lively, my goal was to:
Ingrain social media trends to enhance the communications and finality of actions within the physical space.
Create a balance of physical interactions while keeping up with the current social media trends.
Engagement
As a first step to rekindling socializing, we wanted to look at how we could deliver optimized interactions in order to reduce social media usage and increase intentional conversations.
Vision
Solidify a common space that unites multiple generations together.

Goals
Help Users
Users should be able to initiate conversations with confidence
Share
Users should be able to easily share their information and link with their other people
Creativity
Users should be able to customize their information card to their own liking
Shake Feature
As a first step to rekindling socializing, we wanted to look at how we could deliver optimized interactions in order to reduce social media usage and increase intentional conversations.
Findings
Based on feedback, I learned that some users might not want this feature. Realizing that the phone might shake while in a pocket may trigger this feature - making things troublesome.
Toggle
To remove this bug, I developed a setting toggle that allows users to turn off the setting.
Final Polish
QR Code
QR codes allow people to quickly and easily access information or content without having to type in a long URL. This targets the younger generations who are used to having information at their fingertips and may not have the patience.
With the rise of smartphones and other mobile devices, QR codes are a natural fit for this generation, as they can be easily scanned using a phone's camera. This allows for seamless integration with mobile apps and websites, which are increasingly important for reaching younger audiences.
Self Management
Although there are pros to having premade information displayed, my thought was that allowing the freedom in what to display will bring in more users.
Learnings
This project was to bring awareness of the differences between generations, then find a solution to unite them together. It resulted in the development of a portable information card that can be used in a digital or physical space. This allows people to be able to stay up to date with social media while socializing with physical interactions. People now have a common space for conversations allowing talks to be more thoughtful.
